General Purpose:
Under minimal supervision, applies engineering theories/concepts to assignments in support of business objectives and will be responsible for providing engineering leadership and expertise in the coatings areas. Conducts feasibility studies, determines manpower and cost estimates and develops engineering criteria. Performs analyses to develop design options or recommendations for structures, systems and components. Applies knowledge of other disciplines in solving complex problems. Emphasis will be placed on team participation, ability to plan, and ability to achieve results on assigned projects.
Essential Functions: Independently develops and applies engineering approaches to projects/assignments. Completes broad assignments, using originality and ingenuity. Reviews and recommends processes and operations that involve complex engineering applications. Regularly serves as coatings technical representative of HMI in area of expertise. May participate in or lead cross-functional project teams as a technical coatings engineering expert. Applies sound project management and engineering principles. May develop and manage project schedules, expenses and capital plans, and other resources assigned to bring the project in on time and within budget. Provide leadership and insight into new or emerging engineering concepts and technologies. Support multiple projects in various phases, simultaneously. Provide daily production support with leadership in hands on problem solving and resolution with a high sense of urgency. Responsible for timely planning and designing of substrate preparation, and finishing processes. Review, identify, and recommends process improvements and operations as it relates to finish processes. Conducts tests to evaluate changes and opportunities for process and production improvements. Identify and validate equipment criteria, identify and source vendors for equipment needs. Independently develops and applies engineering approaches to projects,assignments, and problem solving. Provide training and support to technicians and applicators. Support multiple projects in various phases, simultaneously. Approaches work with a high sense of ownership and responsibility. Performs additional duties as requested to achieve business objectives.
Minimum Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Engineering or 2 years college in scientific/technical field PLUS 6 years experience as a top performer. 3-5 year professional engineering experience in a finish/paint/coating work setting. Experience with powder coat processes required. Experience with other coating processes such as Autophoretic, high solid and water born liquid applications preferred. Experience with different types of substrate processing such as steel, aluminum, plastic, castings, and wood required. Experience specifying and validating equipment criteria. Knowledge and experience with coatings formulations, understanding the functions of coatings components and their performance against desired criteria is required. Experience with pre-treatment systems required. Possess the energy and drive to complete work in a timely matter and meet deadlines. Proven skills in paint system design, layout, and operating parameters. Project management is required; PE preferred for some assignments. Knowledgeable with Lean principles and application. Must be able to assess process concepts and to determine where continuous improvement opportunities exist. Must be able to communicate effectively with people at various levels including production, engineering, and management and to be able to work well with and develop a partnering relationship with other team members. Able to work off shifts and/ or at multiple locations. Must be a skilled problem solver and be able to use data and apply engineering expertise to problem solving. Must be able to assess priorities and determine course of action with minimal day-to-day supervision and be able to anticipate, recognize, and respond effectively to changes which affect project plans. Must have an overall business sense and understand how decisions affect the business. Demonstrated ability to effectively use office automation, communication and software tools currently used in the HMI office environment. Fluent in the use of common office automation software, Excel, word, MS project. Must become skilled in Baan, Maximo, and Mysign applications. Required engineering related AutoCad software. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
